Life got better .. I executed every possible fix mentioned in FAQ 4 and FAQ 5 and alas I got a working perl, most everything else from a selfupdate-rsync, then an update-all .. the latter ran for several hours and finally crashed around Xfree 4... telling me I could not do that in batch ..
Ahhh...sounds like you need to have the Apple X11SDK package from XCode.
So for the fun of it I have restarted update-all .. If that dies again .. I guess I will need to try to fink install or update the specific named items and see what happens ..
I don't think the FAQ was meant for folks who had had to reinstall Mac OS X .. 10.3.7 .. Back later if this bombs.
