Please help...
I installed fink yesterday and it changed settings in the NetInfo Manager make it impossible for me to su - postgres from the terminal. Does anyone know why this would have happened or what I can do to correct it?
Possibly: since Fink has its own postgresql package it adds a user for that as part of the 'passwd' package.
Look at the passwd file to see what happened:
% nidump passwd .
You'll see that the shell for the postgres user has become /dev/null, you can change it with chsh, see the manpage.
Note that the passwd package asks you to check things before going ahead and isntalling it's users, but people rarely do. The whole thing needs to be redone differently, but nobody ever seems to have the time.
