Trevor,
Mutt and fetchmail are installed. I have copied .muttrc and .fetchmailrc
from another computer into the home directories of the user accounts.
Mutt complains about not finding a mailbox. Fetchmail doesn't complain,
but doesn't pick up anything. I had someone set up MacMail for one
account, hoping it would establish the connection, but no luck.
Thanks, John
One obvious thing to look at is whether you're looking at the right mailbox--make sure it's looking for /var/mail/user rather than /var/spool/mail/user, or something like that.

so I'm hoping the Mac can be set up easily and correctly.
I think you need to provide more details. When you say, "it didn't work", what didn't work? What exactly could you not "set up quite right" on Fedora? I assume you've already installed fetchmail and mutt from Fink?
