I now have Evolution functioning fully but without my old data. That's
ok as I can refer to my kmail and other apps if I need to. I found that
I had to remove the shortcuts and then add them by ctrl+clicking on the
folder and selecting add to shortcuts. Now they work. I wonder what
happened? It must have been when I hosed my system and erased some
files, though I would think that starting evolution would have created
the necessary ones. Oh well.

I'm sending this with Evolution and have a partial, mostly, successful
setup. The shortcut buttons are still non-functional and the Summary
icon shows up an additional time for each session so I just got rid of
that view. Other than that, it is functional and I did not have success
copying the files from my old folder as something causes Evolution to go
bad again. I don't think it's worth the effort so I'll try this as is
and see what happens.
