I had tried to install Evolution on my iBook G4, but I got stopped at a simple thing: gtkhtml3-shlibs.
I made sure that I had the latest Fink stuff, and that all my applications were up-to-date. (FWIW, I think I've got Xcode1.1, so that may be the one bit that's out-of-date.) I got to the point where Evolution wanted a bunch of dependencies. Okay. I tried, and it died. I narrowed the field a bit, installing the individual packages. Every time it got to this point, it died. Once I figured that it was this one package in particular, I watched this list... People that had problems with installing Evolution had issues that were almost completely different. My general position now is that Evolution is too much effort. I was trying to find a suitable client to deal with the fact that I have to deal with a crappy IMAP server (Thank you, M$!), and I decided to use the one that I use at home: Sylpheed-Claws. It compiles nicely (even the GTK2 version) from the shell (with a tweak that is found in the sylpheed.info file), and it does 99% of what I need it to do without being sluggish about it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- William Smith wsmith-at-chezsmith-dot-com Fall River, MA http://www.chezsmith.com "4) Bobby Flay is coming to your house to tape an episode of 'Food Nation' so you thoughtfully replace your 'Welcome' mat with a large wooden cutting board." -- From the Top 12 Signs You've Been Watching Too Much FoodTV * TAG! v3.1a *
