Gentle group, Last year after I changed laptops (IBook G4/1.33Ghz) all my X stuff got munged, and this list graciously helped me get it all back to where it needed to be (updated Fink, mostly, allwing reliable update of X).
OK, all is fine, except when I launch X (XFree86 4.2.99.x and XDarwin 1.3b4) I choose rootless mode, and 3 windows (consoles) appear, a long one on left (and the bottom scrolls off the screen, so i'm unable to size it from the theoretical bottom corner), and 2 windows to the right, one above the other. If I launch any given app, it launches, but any time something needs to occur I must *click* on a console window for this thing to happen. Like launching Gimp, which I love and use but has become a pain in the rear. I do /sw/bin/gimp and it launches --but doesn't appear till I click on a console (any console). Can I change this behavior? Somewhere i recall reading I might be running something other than bash, this is likely the reason and this can be changed. But i'm stuck here. Looked and looked, too unfamiliar w/ what's going on to locate what can be changed and then change it. Any ideas here? Thanks much in advance. I'd sort of like to just, well, LAUNCH things w/o having to click every time I want to open a file, or save or whatever. And FWIW, X now seems to take *forever* (22 seconds, actually) to launch, compared to the older version. Wondering if THAT is related to the shell i'm running. Or not, and is just the new and improved X from a year ago (can't recall that version). Again, thanks in advance, and forever... regards, EricLecht ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by Demarc: A global provider of Threat Management Solutions.
