Hello,
Some people, including myself, found that ethereal starts up very slowly. I managed to solve this by doing two things:
- recompiling gtk+, libpcap and some other basic libraries, and
- updating prebinding, with
"sudo update_prebinding -files /sw/lib/*"
and
"sudo update_prebinding -files /sw/bin/*"
Unfortunately I don't recall exactly which libraries I updated. Also, I don't know if the solution was the libraries or the prebinding (or both).
Anyway, ethereal now behaves properly for me.
Hope this helps someone, -- Eelco.

Thanks for sharing. I did the prebinding and Ethereal is loading quickly.
