I confirm, I get the same failure (OSX 10.3.8, otherwise up-to-date).
Me too, reported on 29/03/2005 on beginners list.
This impedes to install galeon and full mozilla, but mozilla-browser and mozilla-rsp compiles, so that the browser is working in its minimal version.
The failure occured for me after installing ImageMagick.
