I tried rebuilding rmagic....and got error messages.

I then removed rmagic and tried to both rebuild it and reinstall it, but apparently the package points to an older version of perl (5.8.1) than the version that comes with OS10.4 (5.8.6) This is the error I get when I try to reinstall rmagic now:

Failed: Internal error: node for perl581-core already exists
Is there any way around this, or do I need to wait for 10.4 packages?

Thanks.

What happens if you try the methodology from http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/comp-general.php?phpLang=en#node-exists ?

Yes, the rebuild might be the fix. I tried to install perl584-core and ended up with this problem at first:

lib/locale...........................FAILED at test 99
lib/Math/BigInt/t/bare_mbf...........ok
lib/Math/BigInt/t/bare_mbi...........ok
lib/Math/BigInt/t/bare_mif...........ok

And then ultimately got this:

Failed 1 test script out of 835, 99.88% okay.

Do you think now that I should rebuild Report Magic, and if I I rebuild it, will I completely lose my config files for it? They were a little tough to set up in the first place

Thanks,
JC

I'd say it looks like you need the rebuild--back up your config files somewhere safe and then see if you can reuse them.
