Hello,
I wanted to install the same OOo package but heard about disk space
problems with the build. Luckily Mr. Kevin Horton here directed me to
the University of Tokyo site below where the package is available as a
binary so no weird compiling problems. Just download the binary from the
site, navigate to the directory you downloaded it into in a terminal
window and run (from Kevin):

sudo dpkg -i openoffice.org_1.9m97-2_darwin-powerpc.deb

Notes:
1. the file name at the end of the command line will depend on
which .deb you download from
http://fink.sodan.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~asari/OpenOffice.org/.

2. The debs at that location are for OS X 10.3 Panther. I'm not
aware of any ones for Tiger. I tried it on Tiger, and it didn't
install.

I guess if you're running tiger your SOOL though.
Good luck,
Brian
