i reinstalled all the x11 stuff, went to play my mplayer but got this:

mplayer -playlist playlist -shuffle
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libmp3lame.0.dylib
  Referenced from: /sw/bin/mplayer
  Reason: image not found
Trace/BPT trap

how would i fix this?

It looks like when you built mplayer it linked to lame in /usr/local/lib (a standard problem that can occur when you mix-and match libraries) rather than fink's lame-shlibs, and since /usr/local/lib got clobbered by your archive install, mplayer can't find the library it needs.

"fink rebuild mplayer" should fix it.

That's nothing to do with Fink--an archive install clobbers your / usr directory, and all of the stuff that X11.app needs lives in / usr/X11R6. You'll need to reinstall the X11User and X11SDK packages.

Your /sw directory should be untouched (at least it was when I had to do this myself).
