I just installed fink 0.7.2 on my new OS 10.3.5 laptop (after installing
0.8.0 by mistake), and then ran "fink install gnumeric" from a terminal
with no apparent trouble. But, when I tried to invoke gnumeric from the
terminal (after restarting), I got the message: "(gnumeric:447):
Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: ".
I searched the beginners and users mailing list archives, the
documentation and the FAQ, but don't see anything that seems relevant.
Umm....
http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-general.php#no-display
That didn't kind of look familiar?
(I
have no idea what I'm doing, so that's easy.) I did nothing besides what
I described above and have a relatively pristine machine otherwise; is
there something else I should have done (or should do) to get gnumeric up
and running?
Thanks,

Start X11 before running almost any GUI-based Fink application.
