I am running tiger. This was a clean install and I moved my home
directory to the new installation.
This is a fresh install of fink. (several in fact) I used both fink
install gnome-terminal and apt-get install gnome-terminal.
I have been installing and uninstalling like a moron to no avail. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

What version of gnome-terminal is this? Both 2.6.1 (binary) and
2.10.0-1 (unstable) work for me (though I could well have different
versions of the other GNOME libs than you do).
