The fix for the files with names starting with a hyphen works in so far as they are now installed. But you can't use them anyway, because gzip chokes on the hyphen, too:

File -a.fig.gz:
Couldn't uncompress the file: "gunzip -q -c -a.fig.gz > /tmp/-a.fig"
Uncompressing file -a.fig.gz in /tmp because it is in a read-only directory
Error reading -a.fig

It is severe upstream brain damage to have such file names. I don't know if simply renaming them would be sufficient or if some other part expects them to have these crazy names.
