Fink package maintainers have kept fixing issues. Yes. I put X11.app in system preferences and it worked fine. I don't know why it didn't work for you. To lanuch KDE automatically, you need to edit .xinitrc file. > and is it > possible not to start quartz? Not since 10.3. Up to 10.2, you type ">console" in username, you log in without Aqua, and type startx to start X11. I've heard it doesn't worl since 10.3, but haven't really tested on my own.
