I am getting an error reported many times on this list. Various apps
(lilypond and pan are the two so far, though there are more, I'm
sure) report during startup:
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file
This is followed either by failed start-up or crap output. I am aware
of the FAQ question that suggests calling 'sudo fc-cache' to fix this
problem. This doesn't work for me. When I try that I get
spamguy:~ spamguy$ sudo fc-cache
Password:
Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file
i.e., same error. Doing 'ls /etc/fonts' shows the file is at least
there, but having peeked in I can say I have no idea what to tweak,
if anything. I have tried reinstalling all fontconfig packages with
no success. Help!
