Assuming you're on Panther this is known: http://wiki.opendarwin.org/index.php/Fink:Package_issues This does need to be mentioned in the FAQ, but I just haven't had time to do that as of yet. > The beginner archives casually mention downloading XCODE 2.1. And it's not "random code"--it contains the official compiler packages, and is more or less MANDATORY if you want to install ANYTHING (Fink-related or otherwise) from source. > My other comment is that I still have not seen documentation for > beginner/beginners just looking for a total implementation... ala click > on this, and it's installed ;-) There are over 5000 packages in the Fink distribution. The amount of labor it would take to document every package would be prohibitive. When the packages work correctly, installing them should normally do the trick--and anything specific that needs to be done at the user end should be mentioned in the package description available via "fink info <package>". Any deviations from this defintely should be reported on the lists and to the maintainer of the offending package. > > So, back to the source --> scan packages. I have 3 entries that say: > "wrote 0 entries to output packages file". Is that good or bad? It's fine. scanpackages is just saying that it scanned an area where you haven't built any files, so it didn't write any entries about your nonexistent files there.
