xsnow displays in the X11 environment on the x11 background. If you
are using x11 in rootless mode (you see x11 and normal Mac application
windows at the same time), the x11 background is hidden. You need to
set x11 to be rooted (full-screen, where you press a certain key to
switch between the x11 and Mac-like worlds) to see the snow.

There are Aqua snow programs available...google for: xsnow "os x"
