You're fine.  And KDE 3.4.3 is available via the "unstable" source
tree (which doesn't mean it's unstable, itself) and you can install it
now if you'd like:

You may want to wait a little while, though, because the KDE
maintainer is getting ready to release 3.5--that way you won't spend 6
days compiling it, but only 3.
