Hi Alexander, I found some earlier versions archived on my system and installed xorg-6.8.2-22 and shlibs too and I have a working system! Openoffice crapped out though but it was U of Tokyo project and so I edited my source.list and am now installing OOo from source via Fink mirror. Nice thing about U of Tokyo packages is that they were binaries-I wonder where they went? Anyway-almost back to normal. Thanks for your help.
