Hi,

you will also need to start it by hand from the command line in Terminal or use Xdroplets to create a clickable file that looks like an application but does nothing but start the actual application up. The actual program is located in a new directory /sw in the root of your hard drive.

Xdroplets can be found here:

Good luck,

I am using PostgreSQL on a Mac Mini with OS X 10.4 (not the Intel version) and discovered that the person who originally installed it somehow missed installing a lot of stuff. For example, the plpgsql language and all of the character set conversions are missing.

Being new to the Mac world I went out and purchased a Mac Mini with an Intel core duo and OS X 10.4. After a lot of reading and gaining a big headache, I finally got PostgreSQL installed on the new machine and it all seems to work. I believe I could now do this on the other machine but I ran across the Fink sight and thought that using Fink might be a better choice for managing updates after the initial installation.

Here’s my problem. I don’t know what to do. I believe I’ve successfully installed Fink and FinkCommander. I can download and install packages but after that I don’t seem to have a working application, at least I cannot find one on the machine. I tried it first with PostgreSQL v8.0.7. FinkCommander says the application (or package) is installed but I cannot tell that it is. Since I was getting no where with PostgreSQL I tried xpdf, thinking that it may be easier to figure out since it seems to be a smaller package. However, as with PostgreSQL, FinkCommander indicates that I have the current version installed but I don’t see how to use it.

What am I missing here? Does Fink just install the package? Are there more steps that I need to take in order to get the application installed on the machine in a usable form?
