Hello,

I installed MC via fink on my PowerBook.
It can be started from the terminal, but the cursor key don't work
the expected way:
when I press up/right/left/down, this has not the desired effect, but
just prints A/C/B/D at the prompt.

Which settings do I have to change so that MC can be controlled
properly?

Regards,
Michael

Try setting the TERM environment variable:

export TERM=xterm

if you're using bash, or

setenv TERM xterm

if you're using tcsh. You can find out what shell you're using via
'printenv SHELL'

Fink Documenter (still)

I'm using bash, with xterm-color as value for TERM.
When I change it to xterm, it has no effect other than having a b/w
terminal.
The cursor keys in MC still print A/D/B/D ...

When starting MC, the following hint appears from time to time:
Hint: Keys not working in xterms? Use our xterm.ad, .ti and .tcap files.

What does this mean?
Exactly what it is written. But first of all, did you read the Usage Notes in the mc info file?

fink info mc

to read them.

Not to say that it works, but that would be the first thing to try.

Cheers,
Michèle
