Well, this was the standard advice in this case, but after looking at 
that package I see that it won't help there. They use a home-made 
configure script that doesn't log its output anywhere.

What do you get from running

g++-4.0 -no-cpp-precomp -DAUTO_PTR_BROKEN=1 --version

?
