No, I've not installed gtk from any other source than fink. I did have fink installed in the past, which is why I reinstalled X11 from Apple when this happened as I thought the stuff in /usr/X11R6 might have been some residue from those installs. But other than that, I've not installed gtk or installed any packages that would require it other than through fink.
