Erm?  The most recent version of XCode (2.3) comes with GCC 4.0.1, build
5341.

I'm not sure where you got your gcc 4.2, but if it's from Apple, it's
not even available to select members, so we've not had any opportunity
to support such a beast.

Are you perhaps running some early 10.5 prerelease?
