When you "tried again", did you restart Konqueror, or just use an
existing session?  Also, check the messages in Terminal.app--I saw a
reference specifically to ssh-askpass, which was what inspired me to
install x11-ssh-askpass.

Some more information might help, such as whether your sftp is the
system-installed one or came with a fink package (i.e. run "which
sftp").
