Why do you have to compile it yourself?


In any case you have to do customizations in the .info file of the
appropriate package(s).  Check out:

http://fink.sourceforge.net/doc/packaging/reference.php

If you go this route we recommend copying the package's .info and
.patch file (if present) into your local tree (e.g.
/sw/fink/dists/local/main/finkinfo) to make sure that you don't lose
your work when you run a selfupdate.
