Your machine appears to be using fink's "10.3" distribution (incorrect
config) or the "10.4-transitional" distribution (unsupported and
unmaintained since August 1), not the "10.4" one. The only supported
distribution on your machine has that package at 2 version.12.4-1001,
not 2.12.4-1.

Someone else pointed out that I have to update my xtools and
then update my fink installation as follows:

   To start with, your Fink setup is out of date.  The current distribution is 0.8.1.
 
   Check out http://fink.sourceforge.net, in the section marked

   2006-07-24: Reminder: "10.4-transitional" Tree Unsupported on August 1st, 2006

   You're using an unsupported tree.
