Thanks for the response.  It's nice to be using tools with a solid

Thanks for pointing me to the package info.  I simply hadn't stated
the dbms. It looks like the messages from the install were about a
short-lived service just to get things set up.  Silly me.

Now that I have started the service using "sudo pgsql.sh start" I can
now get into psql with:

      sudo psql -U postgres template1
