Yeah.  Fink's octave forge is geared for octave-2.1.  I reported this to 
the maintainer--octave-forge upstream has changed a few things, so he 
has to change how the package is set up.

If you're on a PowerPC, you could downgrade octave via "fink install 
octave-2.1.71-1006" and then install octave-forge.  I'm not sure whether 
you'd then be able to install the current octave and use the stuff from 
octave-forge--I haven't tried that as of yet.
