Below is what I get. I hope this traces back enough to provide the
info. If not, let me know and I'll dig more. Thanks in advance.

Hi All, I've installed the latest version of fink in Leopard and
can successfully run "fink reinstall fink" and "fink self update."
However, when to try "fink update-all" it crashes with the
statement "phase installing: aquaterm-1.0.1-1 failed." When I try
to run fink programs they are really sluggish and the graphics look
horrible. Any ideas? thanks glenn
Not much help for your aquaterm situation without your posting some
useful information: literally any form of error during the build will
result in the message above. Try posting starting with the last
statement the compiler tried to run.
As for the "horrible graphics". Most of Fink's packages use X11, and
so you may be seeing the X11 graphics, which may look crummy in
comparison to those you get from graphic apps that use the OS X main
display (Aqua). "Sluggishness" is frequently seen in apps that use
one particular display toolkit (GTK+2) for the first time such apps
are run--probably because they have to build lists of fonts--but after
that they're faster. What apps are you having such issues with?
