It could well be that your problem is the same as that reported in the following thread: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.os.macosx.fink.beginners/20615 Before following the suggestions I made there, you may want to take a look at the news entry at http://www.finkproject.org/ It starts with "Users who want to update their Leopard X11 installation should make sure to download a Fink-friendly update to Xquartz. ..."
