It could well be that your problem is the same as that reported in  
the following thread:

Before following the suggestions I made there, you may want to take a  
look at the news entry at
http://www.finkproject.org/
It starts with "Users who want to update their Leopard X11  
installation should make sure to download a Fink-friendly update to  
Xquartz. ..."

I hope that fixes your issues. If not, it will be valuable to see  
more of the build log.
