Hi there,
I'm running into some errors when installing Fink 0.28.1 from
source.
My system: Mac OS X Server 10.5.2 (Build 9C31), XCode 3.0, X11
2.2.1,
Perl 5.8.8.
When handling the debianutils-package it keeps hanging when
installing
/._. because some other package (base-files) also has that
file...
Last piece of my Terminal - if you want I can post the full log:
dpkg-deb: building package `debianutils' in
`/sw/fink/10.5/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/base/
debianutils_1.23-11_darwin-powerpc.deb'.
dpkg
-i
/sw/fink/dists/stable/main/binary-darwin-powerpc/base/
debianutils_1.23-11_darwin-powerpc.deb
Selecting
previously deselected package debianutils.

installed.)
Unpacking debianutils (from .../debianutils_1.23-11_darwin-
powerpc.deb) ...

can't install package debianutils-1.23-11
How can I get past this error? It's getting very frustrating
not being
able to install Fink (and because of that some other software).
I have
been able to install Fink earlier on exactly the same system,
but I had
to reinstall.
I tried to remove the ._. file by opening the
debianutils.....deb file
with Debian Linux and deleting the ._. from the archive but
that didn't
work out.
Installing from root to bypass writepermissions (being able to
overwrite other files installed by root) didn't help either.
Somebody any ideas?
Post the same message in the Fink-tracker-group? Didn't know
where to
go with this error, so I placed it here.
Hope to get some help!
Thanks,
Jelle
That's a weird error all right--I don't have /._. in either base-
files or debianutils. Could it be related to your filesystem?
An easy workaround would to use the prescription in the FAQ:
http://www.finkproject.org/faq/comp-general.php#also_in
Yeah, I know.. It’s really weird.
I have tried to install both packages apart from each other in an
empty /sw but now ./bootstrap refuses to go on:
---
ERROR: '/sw' exists and contains installed software. Refusing to
install there.
Please choose the path where Fink should be installed. Note that
you will be
able to use the binary distribution only if you choose '/sw'. [/
sw3]

The filesystem I use is Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but the
installer didn’t complain at all during earlier installations on
the same machine as on others. My other Mac’s are also running
Fink on Extended (Journaled), also built from source without those
errors.
Is there any way to tell the Fink-installer (./bootstrap) to ‘--
force-overwrite’?
I really don’t know what the problem is...
Extended/journaled is fine. That's what I use, too.
the bootstrap script definitely won't install in tree that has
stuff in it, and I'm not sure off of the top of my head where you'd
have to hack it to get it to do a --force-overwrite.
The file is troublesome, anyway, since it's installing outside of
the Fink tree. You might want to try turning off any third-party
plugins while you do the bootstrap.
What do you mean with “try turning off any third-party plugins”?
As far as I know I don’t have any third-party plugins. It’s just the
freshly installed system with some other installed apps which, I
think, have nothing to do with Fink.
I have installed ImageMagick (not through Fink but from binary-
archive from ImageMagick-website), Webmin (webbased server-admin),
Lynxlet (textbased browser for Terminal).
Jelle
Well, I had no way of knowing what you had installed, did i? ;-)
I should have been more specific: do you have any Spotlight plugins
or anything else that runs all the time and looks in the fileystem?
