First I need to admit that I am not all that comfortable with "command line interface", that said, here is my issue. I downloaded Fink then for reasons that are not important, I uninstalled Fink. When I attempt to re-install Fink I get the message that it will not install on my drive (the only one I have) because "cannot perform symlink test on this volume because of a permissions problem". I am then told to run the disk utility and "repair permissions". I have done this numerous time with no success. I read that the problem might be that my "user" does not have "admin" privileges but I am the ONLY "user" (other than "guest") and when I look, it shows that I have "admin" privileges. I have not yet created a "user" to work in that has restricted access. If someone can walk me through what might be happening and how to accomplish my goal of installing Fink using the "Fink Installer" I would be forever grateful. I don't want to use my Mac as a frisbee but I am reaching that point. I have a PPC (2005 - pre Windows and Intel package). I have upgraded to Leopard OS X. I want to learn more about "Terminal", Unix, and Linux as I wish to utilize more open source programs but what I am finding on the internet is not aiding me in my journey toward a better understanding of this "not so commonly used" part of a computer.

Thank you for your help with this issues,
H. David Umholtz Jr
