I think what I will do is clear my files of assorted software and klugie stuff that might be upsetting to a new download and install of the programs, and then try again, using ya'll's Fink suggestions.
So, while I'm doing that, I'm going to start working on doing what we did before computers, devise a sampling plan, quasi-random, that will allow me to use only a fractiion of the available data so hand transcription from pdf to excel will not be ever lasting. I bet there's a sampling protocol that will give me accurate results with 99% accuracy. I like that.
