Your problem has absolutely nothing to do with gnome-user-docs., but  
it also doesn't really have anything to do with gdbm, either.

Very likely what happened is that you entered "y" at a configuration  
prompt when asked where you wanted the build directory, and this  
overrode the default value.  Fink doesn't like it when you set its  
build directory to "y" for some reason.

Run "fink configure" again and when you get to the line where you are  
asked

Which directory should Fink use to build packages? (If you don't know  
what this
means, it is safe to leave it at its default.) []

Put in

/sw/src

at that point, (you would have used "/sw/src/fink.build" for Tiger or  
Leopard) and then continue through the configure process (you can  
probably accept all of the defaults there).  If you stop the  
configuration process for any reason the file that controls fink won't  
be updated and you'll therefore have to go back.

Then go ahead and get rid of both of those "y" directories.
