Hi,

Thanks - I hadn't realised that apt had just been updated. I have been  
having problems with proxies for a while, but not yesterday on my own  
machine when I was comparing settings with this new installation, so  
if it's a result of the apt update in unstable, excellent! Thanks very  
much, because it was annoying working around it. Sorry to hear it's  
difficult to update the binary distribution though, it seems like a  
pretty important thing to introduce as it makes use behind a proxy  
impossible for beginners (or at least there should be a comment saying  
that unstable is required for proxy use) - I'll try the unstable apt  
repository though,
