Nope:  we don't put too many special cases in the FAQ.

I don't know how to do this, myself, but what I can tell you is to copy
the package description for whatever perl you're modifying into the
"local" area, e.g. by

cp /sw/fink/dists/unstable/main/finkinfo/languages/perl586.info
/sw/fink/dists/local/main/finkinfo

and then apply whatever flags, etc. are needed on the "local" copy,
which won't get overwritten by fink updates.  You'd probably also want
to change the Revision, e.g. by adding ".0", to make sure your local
version is used, and to distinguish it from the official version.
