I'm trying to upgrade to 10.6 and get my usual utilities -- especially
emacs -- going.
For reference, I'm using a MacBook Pro that just ugraded to 10.6. Also:
> fink --version
Package manager version: 0.18.2
Distribution version: 0.7.0.cvs
The first problem I have is that whenever I try to do something with
fink, I get a notice saying that it requires Rosetta. I take this to
mean that I need to update my binaries. I'd rather have the latest of
everything than continue to run old PPC binaries, so I'm trying to do
everything without Rosetta to force myself to be up-to-date. Perhaps
this is misguided and I need Rosetta to run Fink? Or I need Rosetta
at least to UPDATE Fink?
At any rate, I've tried to follow the instructions on the Fink page
for updating fink for 10.6. I get as far as the command:
fink reinstall fink
When I run this, it asks for my sudo password, then hangs. I know
it's hung, because in the system monitor when I sample the process
running:
/usr/bin/perl -w /sw/bin/fink reinstall fink
I get that 100.000% of the process is doing:
start
main
perl_run
Perl_runops_standard
Perl_pp_system
Perl_wait4pid
__wait4
So what's my best strategy here?
Thanks for any and all help.
