Hmm...

Since

/sw/var/lib/apt/lists/_sw_fink_dists_unstable_main_binary-darwin-i386_Packages

is just a text file, take a look at it with your favorite editor and see if you 
can find a place where it says "Section:" without having a package name in 
front of it; also do the same for /sw/var/lib/dpkg/status.

Both have entries a format like the following:

Section: crypto
Installed-Size: 3236

If you see a bare Section: entry, delete all the lines around it until
you get to the package entries before and after, and then stop--leave a
blank line between those.
