The '=' is indeed the correct connecting mark between the package name
and the version for apt-get.  The 'fink' command looks for a '-'.
Nothing amiss there.

The FAQ entry that you were looking at was for a specific problem that
no longer exists; it involves the "gettext" (by that name) package, and
_not_ libgettext3.

Can you post the entire output you get from an attempt to run "fink
install libgettext3-dev-0.14.5-2" ?
