i get this now:

> $ fink list gnash
> Information about 8952 packages read in 3 seconds.
> i gnash 0.8.7-2 GNU flash player
> i gnash-dev 0.8.7-2 Development files for gnash
> i gnash-shlibs 0.8.7-2 Shared libraries for gnash

success!!

that's good info. i think this was relevant to some build failures in
days past. i had one last similar hiccup with libavcodec-dev, but i got
around it. you said in your first response:

so konqueror does recognize the plugin just fine, and now whenever
there's a flash element on a page i get a 'start plugin' button, but
really almost nothing works yet. nothing i've tried manages to load, and
i get only error dialogs.

i'd be happy to post that info (or use the 'report bug' button in the
kde crash handler-which i think wouldn't be appropriate...), but these
are likely the things you were talking about here:

> I'm currently not working on trying to fix the gnash problems (too many

so, thanks for the help with the install! at least i tried what was
available.
