You might prefer CPAN from the command-line if you're _just_ going to be doing Perl. There's typically a lag between when packages update from CPAN and when they get updated in Fink--we don't have an automatic way to handle that. Plus, if you install modules which aren't in Fink as root via CPAN (for stuff we don't have yet), that can be problematic for other builds if they bring in newer versions of modules which _are_ in Fink. I believe installing as a user may be OK (and the cpan-pm5100 package may be helpful in this regard--I mostly get by with the standard Perl distribution, so I'm not sure) On the other hand, if you're going to be bringing in non-Perl libraries for any reason (e.g. to work on bindings), Fink is superior to the CPAN CLI in that situation because it tracks _all_ of the dependencies, not just the Perl modules. - -- Alexander Hansen Fink User Liaison -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (Darwin) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkx39IcACgkQB8UpO3rKjQ+7vQCfRMH3/HY4Se51N64acJFJfeP1 rAYAn0xVKOMl1E8MbLGEn7B/+N2GU5YG =50FU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sell apps to millions through the Intel(R) Atom(Tm) Developer Program Be part of this innovative community and reach millions of netbook users worldwide.
