Ok, so that was a bad idea.  I appreciate that now.  I went back and realized 
that I had moved /usr/bin/sed to /usr/bin/_sed because I wanted to make Octave 
using the following instructions.

I have reverted init.sh to it's original state.  

This managed to fix my problem with mv.

fink successfully updated.

I'll try and be more careful in the future.
