I encountered the same problem. I'm on 64-bit 10.6. 

I tried the following suggestion:

> If you're on 64-bit, try setting the Perl interpreter to
> /usr/bin/perl5.8.9 in the Fink Commander Preferences.

This solved my problem, the list loads fine now.
