Also, I would suggest enabling the unstable tree now, before you try to 
build gcc and other packages in the stable tree which you will have to 
rebuild anyway once you do enable the unstable tree. If you need to know

(My point here is that the gcc version you're trying to build is -1000 
and -1001 is the current version in unstable. Your package, mpb, is 
probably in the unstable tree because it has dependencies on other 
packages which are only available in the unstable tree. You will save 
time by starting out building the current packages in the unstable tree 
rather than building the older versions first and then having to 
recompile them later.)
