Thank you, Alexander, for your quick reply. Having read the FAQs I was aware
of the possibility of installing from source. Your reply (and links) have
been very helpful in explaining how to read the packages database in
finkproject.org.
BTW, thanks to you, I have managed to install Gimp 2.6.11 (on 18/07/11) - I
was trying to avoid installing from source because I knew it takes much
longer, but in the end it took less than 4 hours, so it was not too bad.
After using it I will drop a short comment to the maintainer on how it works
(it has run, no problem) as suggested.
