Hi Marti,

Remember to reply to the list so that others can help too! (That's the beauty of a global user base!)

Okay, I don't think you have a mess, rather I think you're ready to now do a fink selfupdate, if you haven't already:

fink selfupdate-rsync [the first time or]
fink selfupdate [thereafter]

By this point, fink should "see" your package, you can tell with:
fink list synfigstudio

If it does, then:
fink install synfigstudio

If it doesn't, reply to the list!

Best regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thanks for such a quick response.

In between emails I had restarted my computer. I opened a terminal window and entered 'fink list synfigstudio' as per below. It read 'Information about 312 packages read in 0 seconds.'

Looking at the installation instructions again, I fear that I must have got lost in the process and not fully downloaded Fink. After section 2.2 Installing the source distribution, the terminal session that Fink was ready to use (well, at least that's what I think it said). So I skipped 2.3 Setting up your environment and went to 3 Installing packages, section 3.4 Installing binary and source. That's when I had no success and emailed you.

I have also just gone back to the base instructions (http://www.finkproject.org/download/index.en.php) and noted I have not done steps 2-3 "Double-click "Fink-0.9.0-XYZ-Installer.dmg" (where XYZ is either PowerPC or Intel) to mount the disk image, then double-click the "Fink 0.9.0 XYZ Installer.pkg" package inside. Follow the instructions on screen." I can't find 'Fink-0.9.0-XYZ-Installer.dmg' in the Fink folder when I look in Finder. (I thought Fink was run within a Terminal environment)

Out of curiosity I went to step 4 If anything goes wrong during this process, you can try again by launching the pathsetup application which appears on the installer disk, or by running (from the command line in a Terminal.app window)
/sw/bin/pathsetup.sh
I tried this and the terminal session read "OK" and a window popped up "You're environment seems to be correctly set up"

I think I've created a bit of a mess, hey? ....and demonstrated a total lack of coding knowledge....but I'm keen to learn!

Greetings,

I want to install 'Synfigstudio' software package and was directed to Fink via the Synfig website (http://www.synfig.org/cms/en/download/stable).

I used the fink instructions for first time Fink installation. I had installed the day before the latest version of XCode (4.3 (4E109)). I have a Mac OS X 10.7.3.

I believe I completed instructions listed in Fink section 2, First time installation, successfully (http://www.finkproject.org/doc/users-guide/install.php#setup).

I then moved to Section 3, installing packages instructions. (http://www.finkproject.org/doc/users-guide/packages.php?phpLang=en). I believe Synfig is not binary
(http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/browse.php?summary=synfig&dist_name=any <http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/browse.php?summary=synfig&dist_name=any>), so started following instruction 3.4. I already had Xcode installed, but still proceeded with 'fink list' and saw it listed as 'i'. In case I misunderstood the the significance of this step I then entered 'fink install xcode' and the Terminal session said "Information about 312 packages read in 1 seconds. No packages to install." I assume that is because XCode is already there.

Finally I get to the fun bit and I type in the magic code 'fink install synfigstudio' (which i believe is one of the 7 components of Synfig). I was prompted to enter my password and it returned the message "Information about 312 packages read in 0 seconds. Failed: no package found for specification 'synfig'!"

Please help, I've done my best at following instructions, I've veiwed the FAQ and tried looking at historical emails. I might have missed something, but I gave it a good shot.

Hi Marti,

Have you run this yet?

fink selfupdate-rsync

In other words, what do you get when you run the following:

fink list synfigstudio
