You got the same error because you're still installing fltk-x11, which has _not_ been fixed yet. "fink install octave" should _not_ install 'octave-x11', but should install 'octave'. 'octave-x11' uses 'fltk-x11', and 'octave' uses 'fltk13-aqua'.
