A recent upgrade to Mavericks has caused me to restart from the beginning
installing packages I had previously installed using Fink. For a number of
packages this is caused me to encounter the error message 'Can't resolve
dependency "system-java-dev (>= 1.5-1)”…’ for what I believe is the first time,
though others have reported it many times over the years. I appear to be the
first to report it for Mavericks. My system is a MacBook Pro running OS X
10.9.1. I usually run fink in XQuartz 2.7.5 (xorg-server 1.14.4). I am running
Fink 0.36.3. An example attempt

bash-3.2$ fink install ipython-py27
Password:
Information about 8218 packages read in 2 seconds.

fink needs help picking an alternative to satisfy a virtual dependency. The
candidates:

(1) pyqt4-py27: Python bindings for the Qt toolkit
(2) pyqt4-mac-py27: Python bindings for the Qt toolkit

Pick one: [1]
Can't resolve dependency "system-java-dev (>= 1.5-1)" for package
"libidn-1.22-6" (no
matching packages/versions found)

My initial attempts to fix it involved installing

java_for_os_x_2013005_dp__11m4609
and
command_line_tools_os_x_mavericks_for_xcode__late_october_2013

I still got the error. However java_for_os_x_2013005_dp__11m4609 only claims to
support Lion and Mountain Lion. Installing the package at
http://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp?locale=en also doesn’t fix the
problem. Running fink-virtual-pigs debug yields

bash-3.2$ fink-virtual-pkgs --debug 2>&1 | grep "checking Java" -A 11

Thanks for any help.
